SERIES 2A 109″ STATION WAGON IN VERY ORIGINAL CONDITION

For sale is a very rare, unmolested and exceptionally original Left Hand Drive 1969 Land Rover Series 2a 109″ Station Wagon.

It is by far the most original, unrestored, Series 2a we have seen. Bought new in 1969 by the TV Beograd in former Yugoslavia and had only one private owner since. In the past 52 years it has been driven occasionally by the film crew and always got a good care. Stored in dry garage, which reflected on the incredibly vivid original mid-grey paint.

BODY AND CHASSIS

The body was never overpainted and is in excellent overall condition. Body panels has only few dents, which only adds up onto the vehicles character. It comes with the original front and rear „station wagon“ badge which is becoming rare. As part of a service we have replaced all the window channels using genuine channels and overhauled all 10 door hinges. Front upper wing panels has slightly defected paint from previous servicing and brake fluids – this can be polished and buffed – it is visible on the detailed pictures.

Bulkhead is in exceptional condition, never repaired nor welded, even both footwells are in very good solid original condition. The same goes for under seat trays and door pillars. All five door frames have only surface rust and are very solid.

Chassis is rust-free and has never been welded nor overpainted. Even the rear crossmember and bulkhead outriggers are in excellent original condition. Chassis is the best we have seen on any Series Land Rover.

INTERIOR

Like a journey back in time – it is very rare to witness so good original and complete interior on a 50 years old Land Rover. It is completely original and even has the original floor mats and hardura felt on the gearbox tunnel and footwells. The trim is complete and so is the front arm rest on the door. All seats are original and even still has the leather straps. Only front drivers seat and rear bench has a minor patch done by previous owner. Rear folding bench seats are complete including the original seat cushins which are almost always gone. Both rear bench also have the strap to hold the seat folded. Roof lining is perfect, not sagged or teared and overall in very good condition.

EXTRAS

What stands out on this Series 2a Station Wagon are the features added by Yugoslavian importer „Autopromet“ which are still present on the vehicle.

Front and rear convoy lights with the soviet-style switch right of the dash,
Webasto diesel heater including extra diesel fuel tank on the rear left side and a soviet-style switch,
Roof ladder,
Roof hooks for mounting roof cargo,
Blackout canvas on all rear windows (one is missing),
Schematic diagrams,
Additional interior soviet-style lightning,
Two ashtrays,
Radio mounting and auxiliary connectors on roof,
Interior infra light.

This was a film crew and press vehicle, although these features were also added to some Yugoslavian military Land Rovers.

MECHANICS

In the past two months we have done a big functional repair in our shop. We used only genuine NOS and OEM parts. The jobs include completely overhauled brakes, clutch, carburettor, water pump, suspension, propeller shafts, steering and swivels. Other jobs included replacing exhaust, all oil seals – axles, hubs, engine and transfer box. More minor repairs and replacement of all fluids and filters.

We also replaced all 5 tyres with BFG KM3 and to improve road handling we replaced the original sagged leaf spring by UK made GME parabolic springs – the original leaf springs are sold with the car.

The wiring loom is all original and untouched. Back in the day, importer has added wiring and fuse for the convoy lights – red cables under bonnet. It also has all original LUCAS and WIPAC lights, headlamps, beam main/dip switch and the turn signal with light indicator.

On the road this Series 2a behaves very very good. The gear stick is stiff, gear shifts very well and the engine is just amazing. The 4-cyl petrol runs smooth, strong and starts good even in cold weather. See the pdf with detailed repairs to see how well the engines looks inside.

OVERALL

To summarise this is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of the automotive history. From the investors perspective there is nothing more valuable than all original, never repainted nor welded vehicle with matching numbers in an extraordinary overall condition. This vehicle has been stored in dry most of his life and was used occasionally. The car has clear road documents and is ready for MOT.
